I am a Black American artist from Ypsilanti, originally from Flint, Michigan, with more than 37 years of experience specializing in acrylic portraiture and community-based art. My creative journey has moved through many spaces in education and service, including childcare, technology, and special education, where I used art to support learning and emotional growth.

My work explores both the individual and the collective. Portraiture remains central to my practice because it allows me to study emotion, character, and the stories carried in a person’s face. At the same time, I create murals, installations, and mixed-media pieces that speak to shared experience and community identity. Whether I am painting on canvas, leading a workshop, or working on a large public wall, my goal is always to connect people through creativity.

In recent years, I have expanded my practice to include teaching and live painting across the country and abroad, both in person and virtually. I bring the same intention to every setting—to create art that feels alive, authentic, and human. Observation and empathy guide my process, pushing me to capture truth in expression and to keep evolving as an artist who paints what people feel, not just what they look like.
